Catherine Tate’s irreverent character is coming to the big screen – Film Stories

Catherine Tate’s cantankerous character, Nan, goes on a road trip in the new trailer for The movie Nah.

Warner Bros has released a trailer for the much delayed Nan movie, based on the main character of Catherine Tate. The film about the rude pensioner was first announced in 2019, with an expected release date of June 2020. Now the release is much more concrete – it arrives in UK cinemas on March 18.

Co-starring Gavin and Stacey actor Mathew Horne as the character’s grandson, the film sees them go on a trip to see an ailing Aunt Nell. Of course, things don’t go exactly as planned, mostly because Nan doesn’t want to see Nell at all. Like Nan, she acts in the most outrageous way possible, including going to a rave and arguing with police officers. The film will combine Nan’s present with her past, revealing what made her who she is.

Take a lot in tow –

The official synopsis reads: “Catherine Tate’s iconic character, Nan, appears on the big screen as she sets off on a wild road trip from London to Ireland with her grandson Jamie (Mathew Horne) to make amends with her sister Nell (Katherine Parkinson). Militant vegan arsonists, rowdy rugby teams, late-night raves and crazed motorcycle cops all make for a good day. An origin story that blends Nan’s present with her past where we finally find out what made her the cantankerous old slut she is today.

Nan movie has an interesting crew behind it. Directing is Josie Rourke, who helmed the film directed by Margot Robbie and Saoirse Ronan Mary Queen of Scots. Tate of course contributed to the script herself, and co-writing with her is Brett Goldstein, who starred in and wrote episodes of Ted Lasso.

Nan debuted on Catherine Tate Show and proved controversial, with the BBC having to clarify that his offensive opinions and comments do not reflect acceptable views in the modern world. Tate brought the character back for four specials between 2009 and 2015, before continuing to work on this film.

Nan movie hits UK cinemas on March 18.
