Who’s ready to get “Weird”?
Daniel Radcliffe is who – and, we bet, heaps of “Weird Al” Yankovic fans!
In an all-new trailer for the upcoming Roku Channel Original Movie “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story,” about the life of the accordion-loving musician behind such parodies as “Eat It,” “Living With a Hernia” and “Tacky,” we get to see the former “Harry Potter” star take the stage as Yankovic.
The video begins with a screaming audience and some of Yankovic’s stats roll by – six platinum albums and five Grammys – then launches into the opening notes of “Like a Surgeon,” Yankovic’s parody of “Like a Virgin ” by Madonna.
We don’t have a lot of stories, but that’s okay. Mostly, we just want to see how Radcliffe manages to fit into the taller Yankovic’s giant curly wig, glasses, bushy mustache, and (mostly) Hawaiian shirts.
And you know, it doesn’t matter! Radcliffe is fully on board with the ridiculousness of it all, from a scene where he faces the camera and asks for accordions, only to receive three instantly, to when he prances around the stage shirtless, spitting out a kind of drink (surprisingly, how Yankovic does not imbibe).
There’s a brief glimpse of Rainn Wilson as Dr. Demento, whose radio show initially helped bring Yankovic to the masses.
Yankovic tweeted the trailer on Tuesday, writing “Get psyched”.
Earlier this year, Yankovic released a statement about Radcliffe’s involvement in the film, writing, “I am absolutely thrilled to have Daniel Radcliffe portray me in the film. I have no doubt that this is the role for which future generations will remember him.
The film will be released in the fall.
