While most people naturally know Peter Dinklage for playing Tyrion Lannister in Game Of Thrones, he also has comic book movie credits on his resume thanks to X-Men: Days of Future Past and Avengers: Infinity War. Now, Dinklage is adding a third element to this part of his CV, but it won’t be another Marvel or DC feature. Instead, Dinklage was asked to lead the Poisonous avenger to restart.

A new look at The poisonous avenger has been in the works for about a decade now, with Legendary Entertainment having managed this latest iteration of the project for the past two years. Now Deadline reports that Peter Dinklage was cast as the eponymous protagonist. Mâcon Blair from I don’t feel at home in this world anymore fame is on board for writing and directing.

The original Poisonous avenger was released in 1984 by Troma Entertainment, a film production company known for its low budget offerings. The film, which subverted the superhero genre much like the dead Pool movies have done in recent years, followed a 98-pound low that falls into a vat of toxic waste, turning it into a towering monstrosity. With his new powers, the now poisonous Avenger (nicknamed Toxie) protects the inhabitants of his city from crime and corruption.

While the original film didn’t make a splash when it first hit theaters, it slowly became a cult favorite and spawned three sequels: 1989 The Toxic Avenger, Part II, The Toxic Avenger Part III: Toxie’s Last Temptation (which was released in late 1989), and the 2000s Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV. An animated spinoff series titled Toxic Crusaders also premiered briefly in 1991. Now is the time to reboot the property, and Peter Dinklage will be the one to bring the character to life.

While Peter Dinklage’s previous outings as Bolivar Trask in X-Men: Days of Future Past and Eitri in Avengers: Infinity War were PG-13 cases, if this new Poisonous avenger the movie looks somehow like its predecessor, it will most likely be an R-rated cinematic game. It’s also worth mentioning that Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz, who directed the original Poisonous avenger together will produce the restart.

The poisonous avenger is just one of the many projects that Peter Dinklage lined up as a result Game Of Thrones concluding its eight-season series on HBO last year. Her other upcoming work includes starring in the musical Cyrano (based on the 1897 drama Cyrano de Bergerac), teaming up with others Game Of Thrones actor Jason Momoa for the vampire movie Good Bad & Undead, and lending his voice to the animated film Hitpig. Dinklage recently appeared in I care a lot, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and was acquired by Netflix for distribution.

You can currently hear Peter Dinklage voicing Phil Betterman in The Croods: A New Age, which began its theatrical release last week and will be available on VOD in December. As for which films are slated to hit theaters next year, check out our 2021 release schedule for that information.
