A mysterious entity is spreading a positively deadly disposition in the trailer for Paramount Player’s disturbing new horror film Smile.
The trailer for Paramount Picture’s new horror movie Smile might make viewers want to scream. Lookalike Bacon (Easttown Mare) stars in writer/director Parker Finn’s film. Smile is Finn’s feature debut, and is adapted from his own horror short Laura has not slept, which won the SXSW Film Festival Special Jury Midnight Short Award. While Bacon began her acting career in 2005 in her father Kevin Bacon’s film Lover, this is her first lead role in a feature film.
The disturbing trailer released by Paramount Pictures shows Bacon as a psychiatrist named Dr. Rose Cotter who watches a patient horribly commit suicide after the patient sees the form of a terrifying entity. After the incident, Rose seems to be followed by this same supernatural force, which spreads via a literally contagious smile and kills everyone around her. It turns out her troubling past might hold the secret to unlocking her chilling present. The trailer can be viewed below:
The film seeks to tap into the idea that people who smile for an abnormally long duration are inherently frightening. While the preview keeps many of the film’s details mysterious, in a plot device taken from The Ring/Ringu, it seems that anyone who comes into contact with the smiling entity dies within a certain number of days. The film co-stars Jesse T. Usher (The boys), Kal Penn (Accommodation), Rob Morgan (stranger things), Judy Reyes (Scrubs), Caitlin Stasey (Reign) and Kyle Gallner (Scream 2022). Smile crawls across the face of multiplexes on September 30, 2022.
