In ‘M3GAN’ Movie Trailer, Killer Robot Shows Off Killer Dance Moves

In a new trailer for the upcoming M3GAN movie, we meet a realistic android tasked with caring for Katie, a young girl who has lost her parents.

“Megan, your goal is to protect Katie from harm, both physical and emotional,” says the child’s aunt (Allison Williams), a roboticist at a toy company who created M3GAN or “Generative Android Model 3”.

Horror Movie Translation: Megan, your goal is to go Defcon 1 on anyone who challenges Katie’s distaste for vegetables. And if that means wielding a knife or a nail gun, you do, Megan.

When she’s not busy terrorizing someone who isn’t Katie, Megan likes to show off her limber-limbed killer dance moves, crawl around and utter ominous phrases like “response pattern to recalibrate.” All to a Taylor Swift soundtrack.

M3GAN is co-produced by Aquaman’s James Wan and Blumhouse Productions, the studio behind Getting Out of Jordan Peele and supernatural horror franchise Paranormal Activity. It comes as scientists teach robots to behave ever more realistically, like laugh at the right time to better bond with people. But could there be a downside to all this human-bot bonding?

“They might be forming emotional bonds that are too difficult to unravel,” an expert warns of Megan and her human friend. We all know where that one is heading.

The film opens January 13.
