Prey movie trailer shows new footage of the Predator

A new trailer for the Predator Prey prequel reveals new footage of the infamous hunter inside a cave, as well as in his stealth mode.

Another look at The Predator is seen in the latest trailer for Prey. Prey is set nearly 300 years before the first Predator movie and follows a young Comanche woman named Naru who confronts the mysterious and dangerous hunter from another world as she struggles to be accepted as a hunter within her tribe. Realized by 10 Cloverfield Lane Dan Trachtenberg, Prey is the first Predator prequel project set outside modern times.

Prey hosts a cast of mostly Native American and First Nations talent, including Amber Midthunder (Legion, Roswell, New Mexico) in the lead, Naru, Dakota Beavers, Stormee Kipp, Michelle Thrush and Julian Black Antelope. The movie’s creature is played by Dane DiLiegro, who recently played Ba’al in american horror story. Prey is the first feature screenplay by Patrick Aison, known for his work on Prime Video’s Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan and walking stone.

New footage of the Predator can be spotted in the latest trailer for Prey (Going through 20th century workshops), which shows the creature in silhouette inside what appears to be a bear cave. In addition to this shot, the Predator can be seen in its signature camouflage, extending its blade gauntlet while taking on a wolf. Interestingly, the disruption pattern on the camouflage looks more like fire than electricity, as seen in other iterations of the character. The trailer also features new dialogue and footage of Midthunder’s Naru, who appears to be following the Predator thanks to his glowing green blood. Take a look at the trailer below:

The Predator the franchise has run into a problem lately, especially after Shane Black’s 2018 sequel, The predator, trailed at the box office. The franchise has not seen significant success since the original. Each new entry seemingly hits the same mark for a mostly niche audience of rabid fans, mostly benefiting from lower budgets. After Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, it was unclear if the franchise would ever see the light of day again. Luckily, he was given a new life with Preywhich has the potential to reinvigorate the series in ways that none of the sequels have been able to while following the lower budget approach.

Prey could sink or swim, depending on the execution, but original co-producer John Davis said he thought it was “a complement worthy of the first [Predator]”, which could be a promising sign. Still, with a potential PG-13 rating (unconfirmed at this time) and a debut on Hulu as an original, there are some steep hills to climb to make it something special. Trachtenberg showed great potential with 10 Cloverfield Lane, especially with suspense, character and dealing with an otherworldly creature. Hopefully he can bring some of that magic to the Predator universe, making Prey a viable entry into the franchise. Prey debuts exclusively on Hulu on August 5, 2022.
