Ram Charan and Jr NTR shake hands and stick elbows in visual extravaganza

After a long wait, the trailer of the SS Rajamouli RRR happened and how! The three minute promo looks truly pan-Indian as all language versions have been translated correctly and the central theme of RRR: The quest for freedom is an emotion that resonates throughout the country.

Jr NTR’s Komaram Bheem is featured as a protector and brother figure of the Gond tribes, while Ram Charan is on the other side of the war, as an ally and police office working for the British Empire. But as the trailer progresses, enemies become friends, friends become enemies, and come back to square one.

It is well established from the posters that water signifies NTR’s Bheem temperament and fire represents rage in Ram Charan’s Alluri Sitarama Raju. But Rajamouli takes it one step further and makes sure the difference is felt in almost any shot, like the one of a flaming train compartment submerged in a river, as the tracks draw closer.

From the moment Alia Bhatt’s character was announced, we knew her Sita had been paired with Ram Charan’s Sitarama Raju. Through her character and that of Shreya Saran, the director tried to show how women too played an important role in the struggle and the repercussions they had to suffer for it.

Samuthirakani in RRR is apparently the equivalent of Sathyaraj’s Kattappa in the Baahubali series, as Ram Charan addresses him as a mum and asks him for advice when he hits rock bottom.

The role of Ajay Devgn should be the final trigger that initiates the change in the main characters, who join to face the English pivot, played by Ray Stevenson. Interestingly, the male lead roles were dubbed for their portions in the Tamil version of the non-Telugu trailer.

The length of the trailer drew mixed reactions from netizens, as part of the fans worried that the featurette was giving too many “drama moments”, while others said the film would have much more in reserve.

The film is presented as an action epic made on a high budget. The cast also includes Olivia Morris and Alison Doody.

RRR The trailer was originally slated for release on December 3, but it was pushed by the makers for unknown reasons. The film, meanwhile, is set to hit theaters worldwide on January 7, 2022.
