Weird Al’s biographical trailer gives a first look at Daniel Radcliffe in concert as the famous satirical musician in what looks like a trippy, fun movie.
The first trailer for Bizarre: the story of Al Yankovic reveals Daniel Radcliffe on stage as a famous satirical singer. Radcliffe plays Weird Al in the Roku Original, directed by Eric Appel, who originally directed the 2010 short that inspired the feature version. In addition to Radcliffe, the film stars Evan Rachel Wood as Madonna, Rain Wilson as Dr. Demento, Julianne Nicholson as Mary Yankovic, and James Preston Rogers as Hulk Hogan (with additional other surprise appearances surely in store).
Bizarre: the story of Al Yankovic was filmed in just 18 days, allowing Radcliffe to learn the accordion from the real Weird Al and call the whole experience “mad.” Radcliffe has previously stated that “wwearing the hawaiian shirt is a huge responsibilitywhich he didn’t take lightly. Yankovic made a career of parodying big-name musicians, such as Michael Jackson, Eminem and Madonna, with hilarious music videos that often became as popular as the songs he The musician is also a well-known voice actor, working on projects such as Pete the Cat, American Dad!, and Bojack Rider.
Now Roku has shared the first trailer for Bizarre: the story of Al Yankovic, which appears to be anything but a standard biopic. Radcliffe is first seen on stage performing, as well as high-fives, break dancing, fighting in what appears to be a sushi restaurant, and looking for every opportunity to use an accordion. It sounds like exactly the kind of biopic you’d want for Weird Al, and Radcliffe seems to have had a blast portraying it. Take a look at the trailer below:

‘Weird Al’ himself hasn’t starred in a feature film since the 1989 comedy savage UHFbut has appeared in live-action form for a number of different projects throughout his career, including a role as Nuge in Renew 911!Uncle Muscles in Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! and a handful of projects where he plays himself. Radcliffe, better known as Harry Potter, has taken on a series of bizarre roles since rising to fame with the Magic world franchise, starring in a variety of movies that all seem to challenge his Potter persona, from horns for Swiss army man for Akimbo Firearms and, more recently, The lost city with Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum.
It would be a disservice to make a biopic of Weird Al and take it seriously and this trailer seems to capture the goofy, wild, ridiculous and brilliant character that is Weird Al Yankovic. Radcliffe is a fascinating choice to play Weird Al and he seems to have immersed himself in the weird world of the satirical musician to the point of being almost a satire in itself. Having Weird Al play Harry Potter seems almost too perfect for a biopic and maybe that’s the point. Bizarre: the story of Al Yankovic is set to debut this fall on Roku.
